Publishers picking up on POD
At a seminar on ‘Publishers and POD’, last month in Bussum (The Netherlands), speakers followed up on a 2005 KPMG-report, claiming that 63 percent of Dutch publishers intends to be involved in the Publishing and/or Printing On Demand-business by 2007. At the same time, only 23 percent of them already were.
KPMG has done its research-project again this year, and although the figures are not published yet, the ambitions seem to have dropped a little. Cathelijn Timmers (KPMG): “It’s maybe more difficult than people thought it would be. But the trend towards POD remains strong.’ Indeed: just a few days before the event, Dutch Bruna-bookstores started offering writers the possibility to drop of their manuscript, to have it edited and printed in 40 copies and sold by Bruna. Only 999 euro for your own First Editon.
