Publishers picking up on POD

At a seminar on ‘Publishers and POD’, last month in Bussum (The Netherlands), speakers followed up on a 2005 KPMG-report, claiming that 63 percent of Dutch publishers intends to be involved in the Publishing and/or Printing On Demand-business by 2007. At the same time, only 23 percent of them already were.
KPMG has done its research-project again this year, and although the figures are not published yet, the ambitions seem to have dropped a little. Cathelijn Timmers (KPMG): “It’s maybe more difficult than people thought it would be. But the trend towards POD remains strong.’ Indeed: just a few days before the event, Dutch Bruna-bookstores started offering writers the possibility to drop of their manuscript, to have it edited and printed in 40 copies and sold by Bruna.
